Our Story
The Shine Bright Story
The Shine Bright School is a global community of people committing to Black liberation. We provide a number of incredible resources and learning experiences to support people in their journey of pursuing Black liberation. The Shine Bright School believes in infusing our programs and community offerings with education, joy, imagination and practical application.
To move forward and truly embrace our humanity, we have to do the work. The work of Black Liberation is a daily and ongoing practice that must center the lives, perspectives, and needs of the most marginalized people; BLACK PEOPLE. That goal is what sparked the idea of creating the Shine bright School.
Then in May/June 2020, there was a surge of interest in the work of anti-racism for a finite moment and then it quickly fizzled out. This has been both disappointing and frustrating to watch and experience, so I decided to take that anger and put it into action with a challenge to redirect the conversation on Black liberation. I want this work to expand beyond my capacity and for there to be a community where folks who are committing to Black liberation can learn, and grow while building real and lasting connections that help us continue on this lifelong journey.

We know being in the RIGHT community is critical. To do this work, we need our communities to be safe and supportive. That means we need to ensure that we’re honoring the diversity that exists in our communities. That means we're resisting individualism which is rooted in white supremacy and focusing on community care. That means we’re committing to Black liberation, because we know it’s for everyone. That means we’re making sure to lift up the voices of those most marginalized.
